Verdict in Terrorism Case

Brampton – May 30, 2014 – Mohamed Hassan Hersi, 28, was found guilty today in Ontario Superior Court of two counts under section 83.18 of the Criminal Code for attempting to participate in the activities of a terrorist group, and for providing counsel to a person to participate in terrorist activity. The maximum allowable sentence is 10 years in prison.

Mohamed Hersi was arrested on March 29, 2011, at Toronto’s Pearson International airport. He was released on bail pending his trial on April 29, 2011.

The Public Prosecution Service of Canada is responsible for prosecuting offences under federal jurisdiction in a manner that is free of any improper influence and that respects the public interest. The PPSC is also responsible for providing prosecution-related advice to law enforcement agencies across Canada.
